A professional photographer photographed the two manuscripts with a Kodak DCS Pro 14n Digital Camera. A total of 625 RAW camera files were captured (4500 x 3000 pixels). Photographed were the manuscripts' content as wells as covers, pastedowns, flyleaves, and spines, a reader's interaction with MS. 972, and the progress of the shoot. After initial testing was completed, copies of all RAW files (average size 13.5 mb, zip compressed) were converted to an uncompressed Tiff file format (38.6 mb) using the software Kodak Photodesk ver. 3.2. During the procedure an Adobe RGB (1998) color profile was embedded and an unique identifier composed of the project acronym GNT, the manuscript number, and a three 0-pad for sequence numbering was assigned. Tiff files were edited in Adobe Photoshop ver. 8 and scaled using Equilibrium Debabelizer Pro 5. Microsoft Access tables contain all Technical, Structural, and Descriptive Metadata (24 fields), and a RAW file and folio collocation.
To enhance research capabilities, each image is presented using Zoomify, a software which allows for fast zooming, panning of the high resolution files over the web. Page turning capabilities were added using PHP in order to allow users to jump to different parts of the manuscripts.
