The manuscript to which the present fragment belonged is judged to have been written in the 4th or 5th century, possibly at Oxyrhynchus, the present-day Al-Bashnasā, Egypt where it was discovered.
Provenance
The Egyptologist Bernard Grenfell (1869-1926) and the Papyrologist Arthur Hunt (1871-1934), both of Oxford University's Queen's College, found the fragment while excavating the site under the auspices of the Egypt Exploration Society.
Acquisition
Presented to the University of Chicago in the early 20th century by the Egypt Exploration Society as part of a distribution of documents to institutions which supported the Oxyrhynchus excavations. The fragment is held in the collection of the Oriental Institute Museum (OIM 9351: Oxyrhynchus Papyri pt. 6 #848).
